Hey it has been a while since I did this, but I always have thoughts going through my mind and I just now found some time to throw them out.
Most probably don't know this, however I have founded a landscape company- MATTHEW KELLY INC.- and also co-founded
EagleEnvision.NeT, which is a information technology solutions company. I co-founded with Zack our Freshman year at ZCHS and I incorporated my landscape company in 2008, after previous experience in the field. I have taken almost every business class at ZCHS. My most recent class, Entreprenuership, was inspiring- helping me to further my two businesses. Mr. Park's teaching methods and ethics contributed to successful class time. Mr. Park was always interested and asked me to share about my business, which I did gladly whenever I had the oppurtunity.
I was recently invited to attend the Purdue Research Park Entrepreneurship Academy. Let me say that this has been another life-changing experience I am adding to my list. Thank you to Mr. Park for recommending me to the academy. While here, our group of 50 or so students where divided into groups of 5 persons. Each group was provided with a case study and was then challenged the task of commercializing their product. Earlier this morning our groups pitched a business plan for our products, in hopes of convincing the investors to loan of money. I feel that my group, Sharp Ten, had a very solid product and presentation. Smart Test was our group's product, it is a hematology blood analyzer.
While here I was able to eat dinner with a serial entrpreneur, Eric Davis, and other esteemed colleagues. Tim and Greg who are involved with the Discovery and Research Parks, quite frankly brought Purdue to a whole new level in business. The campus is beautiful and the programs that are housed here Layfayette are extraordinary. I learned of the
Certificate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation program which allows a student to still major and minor in whichever fields they like. The certificate is handed seperately with a graduates diploma in recognition of their hard work and over-achievement. I am even more interested now to applying at Purdue University.
I, along with the rest of my gruop, had the pleasure to be coached by Hank Feeser. Hank is the Head Professor of the Entrepreneurship Program at Purdue University. This man is a wealth of knowledge. Simple as that. "Over-Educated" as some may call. I admire Hank's strategy towards our group and that was: not to do it for us, but to help us when we hit a wall. Which turned out to be great. In my opinion that is the best thing a mentor can do. I hope Hank sticks around a few more years and doesnt disappear off into the wilderness, because I feel that I could gain a monstrosity of knowledge from him.
Entrepreneurs aren't born.... They are made.
